    List of attributes?

    Tim Strackbein Adventurer

I'm working with one of our on-site trainers, and they do not have direct access to pharos.  They were asking for a list of available attributes, but I can't seem to find one online anywhere.  Does anyone have a list of what the options are?  Worst case scenario I can go through and just dictate/write down what is available, but obviously copying and pasting (or sending a screenshot) would be easier.  If this list isn't available, I'll just go ahead and do it manually (and then paste the list here for future generations ), but I'd rather not re-invent the wheel if possible.

          Hi Tim,

What "list of attributes" are you referring to?

If you mean "attributes" of each user record then the Pharos Helpfile has them.

          <last name>,<first name>,<logon id>,<billing option>,<group>,<password>,<access level>,<purse;action;amount;purse;action;amount;purse;action;amount> OR <credit>,<address>,<phone>,<comment>,<rate schedule> ,<card ID>,<middle initial>,<alias>,<email>,<custom1>,<custom2>,<active>

          Regards,

          Jeff Geller

              Jeff,

My apologies.  I should have been clearer, my bad.  I mean the printer attributes (paper sizes, simplex/duplex/staple, etc). The list starts with A0,A1,A10,A2... We want to whitelist attributes instead of just allow all, but I want to make sure everything we want to allow is checked.  Since I'm not making the operational calls on what is allowed (my job is to move the 1's and 0's, not dictate what 1's and 0's are allowed), I want to make sure nothing is overlooked.

              Thanks!

                  Hi Tim,

There is a Table in the database called "job_attributes" that contains the list of them, all 95 items.

                  Regards,

                  Jeff Geller

                      Jeff,

Not sure I have direct access to our db (it's on the db farm).  Anywhere else I can get the list?

                      Thanks

                          Tim Strackbein,

Please see the list below.  I've not tested it, but based on the flags I see in the database, I believe the two lists below will answer your question.  The first list is the only one that needs attention or configuration if my interpretation of the flags is correct.  Jobs that contain attributes in the second list will be accepted whether they are checked or not.

Jeff Geller - Can you confirm that it is the jattr_uses field alone that controls whether a field must be checked in order to avoid rejection (as opposed to the flags field also having an impact on whether a specific attribute can trigger rejection of a job when the system is evaluating said attributes)?

                              That is correct.

When jattr_uses = 7 the job can be rejected because of this attribute. Out of the box the attribute "Custom" has a jattr_uses value of 3 so even if you set it to be rejected it would not.

Some customers have updated this Table so that the "Custom" attribute is a deniable attribute and jobs of this nature would be rejected. This prevents jobs with a Custom page size that could end up with a $0.00 cost, depending on your JCM (Job Cost method). When this job would make it to the printer, often a device will prompt you to chose a different tray for the page size of your job and voila. You now have the letter size job for free.

*If you configure your JCM to have a "Default per Page Cost" (or add Custom to the JCM and assign a cost value to it) then a job that comes in with a Custom page size not included in your JCM it will take on this default cost. Some customer make this very high to discourage users from trying to use Custom page sizes.

I must have manually set mine in the past then.  I was thinking it shipped with the flag set to 7 now.

                                    Jeff Geller,

Does Pharos have somewhere a list of what the 95 attributes details are?  I'm talking about what size/dimensions/type Pharos believes those attributes are?  I know off the top of my head what dimensions attributes like Letter, Legal, Ledger, A4, and such are, but heaven help me if I can remember what physical dimensions many of the others have which then means I have to "do research" (google) to find out... and one month later I probably won't remember and will have to google it again.

I don't know about everyone else, but I cannot remember details about 95 items.  I need an informative list for reference... and I've never seen a list online that matched the 95 items in Pharos.

Plus, what effect would other numbers for jattr_uses have?  Any reference there?

This may be going a little off topic, but I've always been frustrated with the lack of informative information from Pharos regarding the attributes (I suppose I could be just me).

                                        Hi Paul,

I wish I could remember the actual dimensions of a lot of the various paper sizes as well but just can't seem to, even after helping my father for many years on the weekends in a printers supply house. I use this web site as it is interactive and easy to use. Hope you find it simple to use like I did.

*One of the odd attributes in the list above is called "Tumble" which refers to how the flip of the page is done when a job is Duplex.

In the 'job_attributes" Table the column "jattr_uses" has only 2 possible values for a row, it is either a 3 or a 7. I don't know why it is not simply a 0 or 1, or perhaps a 1 or a 2. When the value is 7 that particular attribute can be used to prevent a print job from being released to a device, meaning the device will not accept that attribute if a job has it. If the value is 3 then the attribute is not used in determining if a device will accept the job.

On the information item, is there something more you would like to know about the Attributes we can provide? We could then make it into a KB Article so that it can be found in the future. We try to do our best to provide detailed information when asked.

                                        Thanks,

I made a typo in the previous post.  The lower list of 34 attributes should not require configuration for job rejection as they are present for pricing/job costing purposes.  The first list of 61 are the ones that will trigger rejection of a job if the attribute is found in a print job but is not checked/permitted on a given device.
