There can be many reasons for slowness. Signup is notoriously dependent on DNS functioning properly, for instance, and that can appear as many seemingly unrelated problems. I'm not saying that's the problem in your case, it's just a common problem. I would suggest you open a support ticket with Pharos Support, if you haven't already, and get a proper diagnosis.
As for the clients. if they are also 9.0 R2, then that's the latest version. Update 1 and 2 for R2 did not impact the client side.

For grins, have you tried adding the DNS info to the lmhosts file on the signup station you're reserving from? If that resolves the problem, then it's definitely a DNS issue.If that works, you could simply add the lmhosts file to the remaining signup stations. Standard path is, C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc

Using LMHOSTS requires additional enabling (read: more administration) in the IPv4 component of the network interface. It would be better, tipping the hat to DNS, to use the HOSTS file (same path). That takes effect immediately without any additional configuration.
