When we've run into "init -- device not reachable" problems installing the Pharos iMFP for Ricoh, it has boiled down to an issue with the Java CVM. In those cases, a Ricoh technician had to replace/reflash. I presume that you are attempting to install 1.5.x (maybe version 1.5.3)?
If you are not using an "03" model Ricoh (in other words, you are trying to install on an Aficio model whose last digits are "01" or "02") you can try to install our version 1.4.9 software (which can be downloaded at https://private.filesanywhere.com/PHAROS/fs/v.aspx?v=8969658c5a9070ac9c69). If we know what Aficio model, Java CVM version, and Pharos iMFP software you're trying to integrate, we'll be able to provide you better assistance.
The printers we tried were MP 2851s but I don't have the Java CVM Version in front of me, but we were trying 1.5.3 of the Pharos iMFP software. I did a small test of the 1.4.9 version and received a different error (SDK/J Not found, which is the case because I have the card turned off) so at least it connected. I will try a full install tomorrow and see how it goes.

On a small side note if you have changed the "admin" users password on the device from blank to something else the installer will also have a hard time.
We just added a Ricoh device to our fleet, and this was our issue. We set the 'admin' password to blank and it recognized the device. Just thought I'd confirm a 2+ year old thread and applaud a growing community resource.
