Re: Uniprint support for mobile devices?
Steve Mosing Apr 18, 2013 9:18 AM (in response to nseal@conncoll.edu)We would be interested in something like this too. We would like Android support as well

Re: Uniprint support for mobile devices?
John Hardy Apr 18, 2013 9:20 AM (in response to nseal@conncoll.edu)UniPrint works nicely on Windows tablets, since the install is the same as the O/S installer.
I've had no success with iOS (4 -- havent tested 5) either. We use LPR for our connection on MAC, but there's nothing I can get to work in iOS in that same fashion. Same issues on Android (2.x and 3.x). Basically, nothing native to the O/S or from Pharos that supports a pop-up client or LPR/LPD printing connection.
I did find that 1 Android app (PrintBot) does support LPR/LPD queues, but, it requires using a generic username "Printbot" in order to work (by design from the app developer). Basically, when you submit a job, it goes to printbot@hostname/queue. You also need to be on your WLAN/LAN to get PrintBot to show any connection on your Print Server... just something I noticed.
The only unoffical work around I have for iOS and Android is with Google Cloud Print -- works fine on each mobile platform. However, you need to have a pc/system on at all times in order to use Cloud Print... not suitable for my environment.
Anyone using HP E-Print, or have a working solution using E-Print?
Thanks!

Re: Uniprint support for mobile devices?
Gerald Rezes Apr 18, 2013 9:21 AM (in response to nseal@conncoll.edu)Yes! We were told from Pharos that this was coming. That was in the summer and it still has not arrived. I think we need to tell our Pharos reps that yes, we do want this functionality.

Re: Uniprint support for mobile devices?
Paul LaFollette Apr 18, 2013 9:21 AM (in response to nseal@conncoll.edu)Mobile devices are HUGE right now, and the inability to perform corporate or enterprise level printing is ... pathetic.
All we need to a printing component that can send jobs to a network queue (not just an IP#) ... and be able to specify username, or have a prompt.
Yes, we want the ability as well.

Re: Uniprint support for mobile devices?
Jason Lee Apr 18, 2013 9:24 AM (in response to Paul LaFollette)Huge is correct, but a huge pain in the backside development wise. It's completely different in concept programming and likely require a whole dept of fte developers, management team and vender analysts. Basically rewrite popup as a JavaScript html5 app, not easily defeatable by an end user, and coordinate printing for all printers who likely have few drivers that will work with mobile systems who do not have fully developed print subsystems then make sure it works across all variations of mobile os's bastardized by each carrier. There would have to be a huge request outcry from the user base likely requiring an additional cost as an add-on.
How much would you pay extra to have this feature? Let them hear, that will likely get their attention. For us, we wouldn't likely justify the cost over $200 or so. It would be neat for sure, but critical, no.

Re: Uniprint support for mobile devices?
nseal@conncoll.edu Apr 18, 2013 9:23 AM (in response to nseal@conncoll.edu)This may do what we need, http://www.papercut.com/products/ng/manual/ch-airprint.html but it would be far easier to just have a popup client support for mobile devices rather than change the print system. But you have to do what you have to do

Re: Uniprint support for mobile devices?
Gene Mayro Apr 18, 2013 9:23 AM (in response to nseal@conncoll.edu)We would like this, too. A popup client is just part of it, though. Wouldn't we also need a driver?

Re: Uniprint support for mobile devices?
Matt Uhrig Apr 18, 2013 9:28 AM (in response to nseal@conncoll.edu)We've been looking at PrinterOn as a possible wireless solution. Lots of nice things: downloadable windows driver, browser based file upload / paste url, email address for printing attachments, apps for Blackberry, iphone & tablets, Android. Plays well with Pharos...
Does anyone know if it works?

Re: Uniprint support for mobile devices?
Tony Fappiano Apr 18, 2013 9:29 AM (in response to Matt Uhrig)We just started looking at PrinterOn as well, hopefully the Pharos MobilePrint solution will be enough as we don't have to look any further though.

Re: Uniprint support for mobile devices?
Katherine Baynton Apr 18, 2013 9:26 AM (in response to nseal@conncoll.edu)While it is no small job to add support for mobile devices (as suggested by Jason Lee above), you can be assured that it is in progress!

Re: Uniprint support for mobile devices?
peter@pharos.co.nz Apr 18, 2013 9:27 AM (in response to nseal@conncoll.edu)We have recently released a Pharos MobilePrint solution for pilot testing.
The user emails documents from their mobile device (iPhone, iPad, Android ....) to a local print email address, e.g printColor@your.university.edu or printBlackAndWhite@your.university.edu.
The Pharos MobilePrint solution renders the emailed documents to an intermediate format ready for print release and payment from any Uniprint 8.3 terminal.
Please contact your Pharos Sales representative for more details.
Thanks.
