In February 2019 Sentry Print Services released the first iteration of Email Based Authentication to our customers in hopes of expanding the reach to customers without an on-premises Active Directory system. Recognizing the significance of this change for our current customers, we have chosen to have customers opt-in to upgrading their system to this latest version. Our goal being to work closely with new and current customers interested in exploring this new method of authentication and collect their feedback in order to improve the system and ensure we're developing a product that meets our customers needs.

We've received a lot of great feedback on this first iteration and based on that feedback we have chosen to simplify the card registration process at the printer. In the initial iteration of Email Based Authentication, users registered their workstation with Sentry Print Services and created a 4-digit PIN Code for use at the print device. Upon swiping an unregistered proximity card, users would enter their email address and PIN Code and receive an email from the system with a link to complete their registration.

Now, card registration is even easier for the print user! Rather than receiving an email with a link to complete their registration, proximity cards will now be registered at the printer when a valid email address and PIN Code has been supplied.

Swipe your card, enter your email address and PIN - and you're done!

Note: With security always being top of mind for us and our customers, users will still receive an email from the system when a card is registered to their email address. However this email will now serve as an informative notification to the user with no required action.

As equally exciting, our current customers do not need to take any actions to receive this update. As cloud software, this update has already been released and our customers can take advantage of it immediately.
