We are pleased to announce the latest update of Pharos Beacon! We have introduced several enhancements in this update. Please read the document below for details.
Despite the Beacon updates, I am still not seeing all the device locations or host names captured. The only foolproof way to ID the devices is by manually editing friendly names. Anyone else seeing the same thing?
On the machine running the Device Scout, can you use NSLOOKUP to see if those IP's return a value and that the value is that of the device?
Good catch, they are not responding as expected, even when using the VPN. We have a history of networking issues on the campus. I have 100 plus devices and 80 of them are on separate subnets, and spilt subnets. Most devices in the same building are on different subnets. What's interesting is that CenterWareWeb software captures the info, as does PrinterMap.
Is CentreWare Web and PrinterMap running on the same machine as the Device Scout?
Wondering if this has anything to do with "Area 51".
I may try running the scout off a backup server on a different subnet and see if it picks up the host names.
It always has something to do with "Area 51"! CentreWare Web is on the same machine that runs the Beacon Scout. PrinterMap is running on an app server since it doesn't work and play well with Windows 7.
They have the campus domains split up into zones, and they don't always rollover or populate with all the server info. For the longest time we would have people complain about getting 28203 errors when sending print jobs. If I updated the host files locally on a workstation, it worked as expected, so it's obviously a DNS issue. I explained that if you populated all the zones with all the server names you could fix the problem, a year later they finally admitted that you could duplicate server names in the system without causing conflicts. Add the Pharos server names into all the zones, and viola! everything works!
I believe one of the areas was the "Twilight Zone"
Any plans for Mobileprint reporting in Beacon, or will that be limited to Pharos reports?
Hi John, I have added an idea for this so that it is easier for you to track the status and others can vote on its need. See here. Thanks!
Cool, thanks Carrie!
