Hi Everyone,

It’s my pleasure to announce the availability of Uniprint 8.3 Virtual Cash Translator and MAC OS Popup 8.3.3 hotfixes for download from www.pharos.com

Uniprint 8.3:

  • Pharos Popup 8.3.3:  This hotfix replaces Pharos Popup 8.3.2 and address the following:
    • Using 127.0.0.1 instead of “localhost” which was a problem when Popup client passes a local IP address to Print Server for Notify communication and the address was not reachable by the Print Server.
    • Uninstaller issues after upgrade from previous version.
    • Prompt the end-user to confirm their personal account charge when Cost Center is not selected.

  • Virtual Cash Translator: This hotfix is compatible with Uniprint 8.0 – 8.3 and it replace the original release supported Uniprint 8.0 and earlier.  This release also supports Virtual Cash Acceptors with touch screens, in addition it makes better use of the capabilities of third generation Boscop virtual cash hardware.

For more information, please review the readme file included with each hotfix.

It has been found that the installation of Microsoft .NET 4.5 on a server running any build of Uniprint 8.3 (including Service Pack 1) will cause the Secure Release Service (SRS) to stop working due to an incompatibility between a component of SRS and a module installed with .NET 4.5. Please read below to determine what to do depending on the Uniprint server's current state:

Microsoft .NET 4.5 Is NOT Installed

Action: Do NOT install Microsoft .NET 4.5. You will be notified via this community when it will be safe to install this version of .NET (this will be accompanied by an update to Uniprint).

Microsoft .NET 4.5 IS Installed

Action: Uninstall Microsoft .NET 4.5 and then reinstall Microsoft .NET 4.0. This will restore .NET 4.0 functionality. You will be notified via this community when it will be safe to install this version of .NET (this will be accompanied by an update to Uniprint).

It’s our pleasure to announce the availability of Uniprint 8.3 Service Pack 1 and MAC OS X 10.8 support hotfixes for download from the Pharos Support Center.

Summary of the Microsoft® Update

Microsoft released a critical update (KB 2661254) on August 14, 2012, which ended support for all encryption keys less than 1024 bits in length. Shorter keys are now more vulnerable to brute force attacks given the processing power of today’s computers.

After applying Microsoft’s update, all digital certificates with keys less than 1024 bits were treated as invalid.

How did this update affect the Pharos products?

This Microsoft update may have caused interruption of Pharos services for the following products:

  • Blueprint Enterprise™5.0
  • Pharos Uniprint 8.3
  • Pharos MobilePrint 1.2

All versions of Pharos software (with lower version numbers than those shown above) were not affected by this Microsoft Update.

To prepare for this Microsoft update, Pharos developed, tested and made available hotfixes for the relevant products that will increase the encryption key length to 1024 bits.

What you should do

To mitigate the impact of this update, you can either apply the Pharos hotfix files (recommended) or you can modify a Microsoft registry key to specify the size of keys that are blocked. This can be applied to all current Pharos versions.

How to verify your version

For Uniprint 6.x to 8.x and Blueprint

    1. Open Pharos Administrator.

    2. From the Help menu choose "About Pharos Administrator" to view installed Product Version.

Option 1 - Applying Pharos Hotfix Files (Recommended)

Hotfix files are available for the appropriate Pharos products.

Important note: Applying the hotfix files is suitable for sites running the Final release versions of the appropriate Pharos products. For sites running Uniprint 8.3 Controlled Release (8.3.7182) and MobilePrint 1.1 (1.2.0.42212), please see Option 2. Once the site has been upgraded to the general release, the Pharos Hotfix files can be applied and the registry key will no longer be needed.

These hotfixes can be downloaded from the Pharos website https://support.pharos.com by selecting from the appropriate Downloads link on the left menu.

Blueprint Enterprise 5.0 Service Pack 2

Uniprint 8.3 Revision 174 (includes Mobileprint 1.2)

Refer to the accompanying readme file for instructions on how to apply the patches/hotfixes.

Option 2 – Modifying the Microsoft Registry Key

Alternatively, you can modify a registry key in Windows to allow 512 key bits and to block all keys less than 512 bits. This option is suitable for sites running Uniprint 8.3 Controlled Release (8.3.7182) and MobilePrint 1.1 (1.2.0.42212) as there is no hotfix file available for the Controlled Release version.

Instructions:

For each server in the system, the following steps should be followed.

1. Open a command prompt with local administrator privileges.

2. Run the following command from C:\Windows\System32.

Certutil-setreg chain\minRSAPubKeyBitLength 512

3. If successful, you should see the following message:

New Value:

  minRSAPubKeyBitLength REG_DWORD = 200 (512)

CertUtil:-setreg command completed successfully

The CertSvc service may need to be restarted for changes to take effect.

You can disregard the message "The CertSvc service may need to be restarted for changes to take effect."

Announcing the general release of the iMFP HP Product Suite 1.0.8. version 1.3 which includes version 2.9.5 for Oz devices and version 4.2.1 for Future Smart.

We are pleased to announce the general release of the iMFP HP Product Suite 1.0.8. version 1.3 which includes version 2.9.5 for Oz devices and version 4.2.1 for Future Smart.  This release provides the long awaited Cost Center support (including Grants) for the HP Future Smart devices, along with several changes that improve the customer experience using this technology. You can always find a complete list of the supported solutions in this link.

In This Release:

  • Uniprint cost center/billing support has been added.
  • Uniprint administrators can now configure on a per terminal basis, whether or not to display the user's balance after they login.
  • In a Uniprint environment, when a user is not allowed to go into arrears and they do not have enough funds to complete the least expensive copy job, logon is denied.
  • Removed "Strip Sentinels" and "use track" from the Uniprint/Blueprint terminal configuration because they did not serve a purpose.
  • Access cards with shift characters ('!', '#', etc.) can now be used.
  • The network communications between the MFP and the application server can now be configured to use SSL.
  • On the application server's iMFP Fleet Configuration web page, a "Fleet Deployment Support" checkbox was added. If the box is unchecked, the application server will not test Blueprint database login credentials.

We are very pleased to announce the general release of the iMFP for Konica Minolta version 1.3.  Support has been added for the newest KM engines (Bizhub C224, C284, C364, C454, C554, C654, C754).  Demo mode has been added along with searchable cost centers.  In addition, a nagging problem of being able to switch between print and copy screens has been cleaned up.

New Features:

  • Allow the user to switch to Copy after logging in to Print.
  • Added support for the new generation of Konica Minolta iMFPs (Bizhub C224, C284, C364, C454, C554, C654, C754).
  • Removed the Copy/Print selector on the main login screen. It was replaced by a terminal setting in Uniprint, "Initial Function to Display after Login". That can be set to "PharosPrint", "Make Copies", or "Menu". In addition, the Device Restriction setting in the Management Console was removed, since it is no longer necessary.
  • Added the ability to search for cost centers. Also added a setting in Uniprint to set the maximum number of rows shown in a list of charge codes. If the number of available charge codes exceeds that maximum, the user will be presented with the ability to search. Otherwise they are able to select one from a list, as in earlier versions of the Pharos iMFP for Konica Minolta software.
  • Added Demo Mode, for demonstrating the capabilities of the software without requiring a Pharos Uniprint or Blueprint server.
  • Changed the card reader settings for Konica Minolta devices in Blueprint or Uniprint, to make the settings more understandable.
  • Added settings in Uniprint to allow bit-level operations on custom card reader data.
  • Prompt the user in the installer to open port 50004 in the Windows firewall.
  • Added a Test Port button to the Service Settings, so if the user changes the port setting from the default, they can test to see whether that port is open in the Windows firewall.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed a problem which could cause the MFP to display the wrong user's login information after a user logs in.
  • Fixed a problem which allowed a Uniprint user to make free prints if they manually select an odd media type.
  • Fixed a bug that caused the system to hang after the user selected a cost center, if more than 20 cost centers were configured.
  • Allow an equals sign as a valid character when reading data from a card reader.
  • Fixed a problem which caused an Internal Error on the C35 when using certain cost center names.
